The Role
McGraths Limestone have a challenging and exciting position opening as our Transport and Logistics Manager, focusing on all aspects of the transport operation from when the order is placed with our sales team, to when the orders are delivered to our customers all over Ireland, UK, and Europe.
The ideal candidate needs to be a motivated and customer focused individual with the ability to work on their own initiative with strong communication and leadership skills.
Role & Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Develop, plan, and manage comprehensive logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, and inventory management strategies.
- Lead, encourage and drive continuous improvement of the department in line with strategic goals and objectives of the business.
- Oversee and develop internal processes, procedures, and policies
- Oversee transport with our UK site
- Organise shipping export by sea and monitor warehouse stocks
Operational Management
- Coordinate and oversee daily logistics operations to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.
- Ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of the fleet and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, suppliers, and transport companies.
- Optimise transport routes and reduce costs while maintaining service quality and customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all transportation and logistics regulations, including CPC’s, haulage licenses, RSA.
- Ensure all paperwork, including shipping export documents, is completed in a timely manner.
- Work closely with contracts department on transport needs and schedules.
- Coordinate with Production Departments to ensure proper storage and distribution of products
- Manage contract hauliers from initial onboarding and inductions to reporting, billing, and approvals.
- Organise shift work, after-hours work, weekend schedules.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and manage the transport team to achieve high performance and foster a collaborative and efficient working environment.
- Acts as a role model in understanding and addressing the underlying needs of internal and external stakeholders
- Build and improve customer service approach within the team
- Maintain a constructive relationships across departments and demonstrate effective communication skills as a team player.
- Handle relationship management, communication, and conflict resolution.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor and assess KPI’s, implementing corrective actions to ensure operational efficiency
- Prepare and present regular reports on logistics performance, costs, and areas for improvement.
- Monitor inventory levels and report any issues to senior management.
- Work closely with senior management and relevant departments to ensure best practice guidelines are adhered to and guarantee the prompt and full availability of goods.
- Complete and issue weekly / monthly summary reports on transport department performance to the Senior Management team
- Assist the management team in delivering annual targets
- Manage transport systems including online fleet management, vehicle tracking.
Customer Service
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective logistics operations.
- Address and resolve any issues or complaints related to logistics and transportation.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, drivers and hauliers to resolve daily issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- 3+ years’ experience within a similar role.
- Strong IT experience essential, including MS Office.
- Haulage and logistics procurement experience essential
- Experience in quarrying operations or a construction background will be an advantage
- Familiar with customs and overseas exports with all types of freight.
- Ability to take ownership of improvement projects and see them through to completion.
- Exceptional communication skills, clearly conveying messages to all business levels and stakeholders
- Able to challenge at all levels, using appropriate manner and behavior to encourage positive change
- A positive and flexible attitude, and works well under pressure in a busy environment
