McGraths Quarries (Cong) Ltd is celebrating 60 years in business and is still owned and run by the McGrath Family.

Early 1960's
Michael McGrath Snr, father of the current owners, purchased the quarry in the early 1960’s from the Glynn family. The quarry has grown today to approximately 180 acres.
Early 1970's
McGrath Snr produced only Limestone from the quarry up until his sudden death in 1970 at the age of 49. Mary McGrath ran the business for a period of three years until her sons Michael and John Joe took over its running which continues to this present day.
1980
The quarry extended to the manufacture of stone in 1980. This was supplied to local builders and Galway & Mayo County Council for road works.
1985
In 1985 the company expanded again with the introduction of a concrete plant, production begun for readymix concrete and concrete blocks to local builders and the local authorities.
1995
1995 saw the quarry exporting Weathered Limestone Rockery stone to mainland England where it is widely used by gardening centres and local authorities for landscaping purposes.
1998
1998 once again saw the company expanding as McGraths purchased a Macadam & Asphalt Manufacturing Plant. Production began and supply and lay contracting of asphalt & macadam is now a feature of McGraths Limestone.
2001
Production of cement based liquid screed for local market begins.
2007
In recent times the company commissioned a state of the art limestone fines filler plant, an extension to our existing lime facility producing calcium carbonates powders, flours and grits for glass manufacturing, animal/agricultural feeds and industrial industries for Ireland and all over Europe.
2008
Installation of limestone grinding plant and production of Limestone Filler products.
2010
Began export of Limestone filler products to European Market.
2011
Production of Cemfloor Screed for local market.
2013
50 Year Anniversary celebrations took place. We produced an anniversary leaflet detailing more about our history.
2016
Agreement for Sole Distribution rights for the UK and Ireland for Cemfloor proprietary technology.
2023
80 plus Cemfloor Distributors across Ireland & the UK

Preparations are underway for our 60 year anniversary celebration. We will be holding a series of events throughout the year throughout our community.
Today
The company and quarry has remained a family affair with four sons and one daughter of Michael McGrath snr, and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren now working in the business.

The quarry still produces Ground Limestone and has continued to produce it for almost 60 years.
